A vigorous Pacific frontal system brought 8 to 16 inches of snow to the Cascades overnight with strong winds in some areas overnight. 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected today with increasing westerly winds. The snow will be around 2000 feet... and westerly winds 20 to 30 mph will develop as low pressure moves inland and higher pressure builds into the area. With heavy snow showers and windy conditions at times... the visibility may drop to near zero in the more exposed locations. People crossing the mountain passes should expect wintertime driving conditions. Skiers and back-country travelers can expect reduced visibility on the ridge-tops by this afternoon as westerly winds increase. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow... sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel hazardous or impossible.
